FNB of Wamego Employees Establish Charitable Fund with Wamego Community Foundation - April 06, 2010

The Wamego Community Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the First National Bank Employee Donor Advised fund. As an endowed fund, the principal will remain in the fund forever, while additional contributions to the fund and interest earnings will be available for the employees to make grants to local charitable purposes.

“The purpose of the fund is to allow our employees to collectively support the community in ways that they could not do individually,” said Lance White, FNB President. “By combining the gifts from all the employees, they are able to create a significant amount of dollars each month that can be directed toward charitable causes in the communities we serve.”

White noted that FNB’s staff created a slogan for the fund raising effort called Casual for a Cause. “By supporting Casual for a Cause, our staff can wear denim one Friday a month. I am extremely proud of the level of staff participation, which is more than eighty percent. This is a great community, and we look forward to working with the Foundation to help even more next year.”

First National Bank has been an integral part of the Wamego community since it was chartered in 1876. It employs 30 employees in its two Wamego locations, with branches in Alma and Manhattan.

Matt Bulk is a loan officer at FNB and also serves as vice president of the Wamego Community Foundation. According to Bulk, employees of First National Bank agreed to donate a dollar amount of their choice each month into the FNB Employee Donor Advised fund. “We’ve set up automatic payroll deduction for our employees,” said Bulk, “which makes giving so much easier.

“I strongly believe in giving back to the community where I live and work,” Bulk continued. “The Wamego Community Foundation is a tremendous asset to the community and has made it possible for individuals and businesses to give thousands of dollars in scholarships to local and area high school students, to build the new depot-style shelter house and children’s train in City Park, and so much more.”

According to René Eichem, WCF executive director, endowed funds exist in perpetuity, effectively ensuring there will be grant funds available for FNB employees’ favorite charitable causes now and forever.

“We are thrilled that First National Bank and its employees have established an endowed fund with the Foundation,” said Eichem. “We encourage other businesses in the community to follow their lead and do the same by establishing a fund to support and give back to the community as well.”

The Wamego Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all donations made to the foundation and its funds are tax deductible as charitable contributions.
