KVSB Heritage Club Invites Public to Community Philanthropy Seminar Aug. 19 - August 13, 2008

(Aug. 11, 2008) Wamego, KS — The Kaw Valley State Bank Heritage Club would like to invite members of the public to their Aug. 19 meeting at the Wamego Senior Center. The guest speaker will be René Eichem, executive director of the Wamego Community Foundation, who will discuss how community foundations provide a way for individuals and corporations to create funds and make tax-deductible gifts that benefit their community and charitable causes.

“Perhaps, like many of us, you’ve reached that time in your life when you want to give back to your community,” said Lacinda Heller, KVSB vice president. “Perhaps you feel strongly about a cause; maybe one organization or event has touched your life or the life of a loved one. You might want to create a legacy or pass along your values to future generations.

“Whatever a person’s motivation is for giving, the key to a rewarding experience is to find the best fit between their charitable dreams and financial resources. The Wamego Community Foundation can help folks find that fit.”

The Wamego Community Foundation was established in 1998 to help individuals achieve their charitable goals and ensure that all funds remain in the community. Since its inception, the Foundation has received approximately $1.2 million in gifts and donations and has distributed back more than $500,000 to the community, including the new river access ramp, scholarships, the Wam-Sag-Man recreation trail, and the Friends of the Park, just to name a few.

“By aligning charitable giving and volunteer work with values, life experiences, and interests, anyone can make a meaningful difference in the community,” said Eichem. “No matter how much you give, or how you give, everyone can be a strategic philanthropist. It’s just a matter of learning what a community foundation is, how it works, and what it can do – not only for the donor but also for the community.”

The complimentary seminar is open to the public and is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Wamego Senior Center, 501 Ash Street. Refreshments are courtesy of Kaw Valley State Bank. RSVPs are appreciated, but not required, no later than noon on Aug. 18 to Lacinda Heller at (785) 456-2021 or at lheller@kvsbwam.com.
