In October of 1998, Wamego Community Foundation received its letter of determination from the IRS, stating that it qualifies as a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization exempt from income tax.

Since that time several funds have been created within the Foundation, some of which have provided scholarships to students; others which have provided grants to worthwhile community non-profit agencies; and a few which have funded specific community projects.
